A Muddy Mess

Here is a picture of me, a muddy mess, waiting to get a bath. The photograph of me is not a good one, I mean the mud doesn’t really show up but trust me, I’m knee deep in mud and here is my story!!!

Mamma has not been walking me every day so today I decided that I would go for a run. Mamma is not a runner so I decided to go without her. When she came home from work I heard her car pull into the garage and I waited for her to come into the house. When she did, I ran out. At first I didn’t think she saw me, but she did and before I knew it she was out yelling for me to come but I am a fast little puppy. My legs are short but I can really go fast and well, as long as I am faster than mamma I can run all afternoon!

First I ran to the neighbor’s house then into the back yard. The back yard was very muddy and mamma decided to come after me. She was not happy because, as I heard her telling Molly, she was up to her ankles in mud, I think she was exaggerating a bit but I did notice that she had a good pair of shoes on. I kept on running and then went out front for a bit and across the street to the school yard. Rusty later told me that mamma was threatening to give me away at that point. I have never seen my mamma so angry. Mamma went inside and Molly came out to yell for me, I thought maybe she was going to run with me, but no such luck…. Eventually mamma went back in the house….and soon I decided that it was time to come home.

When mamma came out to look for me again I was in the front yard and I ran to her as fast as I could, I thought she would be really happy to see me but she was mostly mad because when I jumped into her arms to greet her I forgot that I was a muddy mess and I got mud on her sweater, her pants and her jacket. I think that all that mud will come out in the washing machine but that didn’t seem to matter to mamma.

Well, we went into the house and before I knew what was happening mamma had me in the kitchen sink giving me a bath. I absolutely hate to have a bath. I really don’t think boys are supposed to like baths and I am definitely all boy! Usually I don’t have to get a bath unless mamma and papa are both home because it takes two people to keep me in the sink. Mamma was very determined by that point and I got a bath!

The next time I need a run, I will definitely stay out of the mud!

My new new bed

Mamma took Molly to State College to shop today and when she came home she had a lovely bed just for me! It is one that she says I will not be able to easily destroy. It is much better than the other new bed, it is big and when I jump on it, I can imagine myself on a trampoline. I am attaching a photo of me enjoying my new bed. I am a happy, happy dog tonight!!

Football Season

Today I learned about football! I learned that the month of January is dedicated to playoff games and that they play those games every weekend. Mamma and Pappa have been watching a lot of football lately. I learned that mamma’s favorite professional team is the Eagles and I learned that when the Eagles are playing, no one is supervising me! My pappa is off with the National Guard today and Molly is playing with her friends. That leaves me and mamma at home and since she was watching a football game I had to find something to do to entertain myself.

I played with some toys and I chased the cat. The cat was feeling a bit feisty today and smacked me a few times with her claws so I decided to find a different game. Mamma was watching TV in the living room so I went into the sunroom and noticed a thread on the carpet that was sticking up so I pulled it a few times and….well one thing lead to another and before I knew it I had pulled the carpet off the floor and had chewed all the way down to the floor.

Mamma does not think this will be something that she will be able to easily hide from pappa….she thinks that we will both be in big trouble when he gets home. I am attaching a photo of the little carpet mishap.

Mamma explained a few more rules today while she was laying down the law:

1. I will not roll my toys behind the fridge or under the sofa or bed.

2. I must shake the rainwater out of my fur before entering the house.

3. I will not eat the cats' food, before they eat it or after they throw it up.

4. "Kitty box crunchies", although they are tasty, are not food.

5. I will not bark each time I hear a doorbell whether real or on TV.

6. I will not use "roll around in the dirt" as an option after just getting a bath.

7. Sticking my nose into someone's crotch is not an acceptable way of saying hello!

8. The sofa is not a face towel. Neither are mamma or pappa’s laps.

9. I will not sit in the middle of the living room and lick my crotch when we have company.

10. I will chew on my toys and only my toys.

Bad Dog!!!

Tonight I am a sad little puppy. Mamma is giving my new bed to Sparkie, the cat. Yesterday I was checking it out and discovered that the bottom of it is made of foam rubber. In fact if you turn the bed over, the foam rubber is exposed and it is soft and spongie….so if you pull pieces of it off and chew on it, it is a very interesting texture and is what I think chewing gum would be like. Because you can chew and chew and not get any flavor but the chewing part is a lot of fun. So yesterday I pulled some of the foam off and played with it. I got yelled at when mamma discovered what I was doing.

Today I chewed some more of it. I can’t help it, it is so much fun to pull off the foam and throw it around the living room. But I REALLY got in trouble today. That is why I am sad….mamma took my bed and put it up so that I can’t get it, only Sparkie can reach it and she snuggles in just like it belongs to her. It makes me very sad to see Sparkie using my brand new bed. I’m a very sorry puppy.

I guess I will be in my crate at night forever.
