Midnight Snack

Last night I was outside playing and mamma was in the sun room painting and Molly had a couple friends over to watch a movie so no one was paying any attention to me. I found a rabbit. All I get to eat is dry dog food and water so a rabbit is a very tasty snack to a dog. I was happily eating my rabbit and mamma opened the door for me to come into the house so I brought it to the kitchen and put it on the floor and all of a sudden my mamma let out a very loud and scary scream….I didn’t know what was wrong with her and neither did Molly or her friends because they came running to see what was wrong. They also screamed and then I was really scared. I was sent to my crate and while there I was able to figure out that the problem was the rabbit on the floor. Apparently everyone is allowed to have a snack in the house except for me. I am only allowed to eat dry dog food and an occasional “chewy”.

Here is a photo of me and my snack. Mamma got rid of the rabbit and I was not allowed to finish eating it. The good news is that no one knows where the rabbit came from or how I got it and I’m not telling anyone! I may be eating a rabbit snack again some day, I will just have to be a bit more discrete about it.

No Pins for Puppies!

Last Sunday when mamma came home from church she was very mad at me. In fact, I have never seen her quite so upset. My mamma has started a new craft and it involves a very brightly colored pin cushion and threads and buttons and beads and all kinds of pretty supplies. She is crazy quilting some squares and her plan is to make some pillows for the sun room. Ok, so I was very attracted to the pin cushion and put it in my crate and while she was at church I pulled the pins out. I learned a lesson about pins, they are very sharp and not at all something that I will be playing with again.

When mamma came home from church the brightly colored pin cushion in my crate caught her eye and she was really mad at me. I think she was mostly scared because she felt like a bad mamma to leave a pin cushion where I could get it. I could have been really hurt if I would have eaten a pin. She looked in my mouth and pulled a pin out of my side that I managed to get stuck in me and then she called her friend who told her to watch me and make sure I was acting normal. So to make mamma feel better I chased the cats that afternoon and barked at the birds and did all kinds of “normal” things so that she would know that I was ok and didn’t swallow any pins.

If you are a puppy and are reading my blog, I wouldn’t recommend tearing apart a pin cushion, it was not a good experience.

Happy Birthday to Me!!

Last week was my birthday. I turned one on June 9, 2007. Birthdays are a big deal. When you turn one you are no longer a puppy, you become a “big boy”. I am now a “big boy”. Along with “big boy” status comes a list of new rules!! A “big boy” does not pee on the floor, he also does not chew on flip flops or any other shoes, he is not supposed to run through the gardens or basically have any puppy fun. Mamma layed down the law to me this week.

The good news is that for my birthday Molly and mamma and I went shopping. Mamma and Molly go shopping a lot but this was my first trip. I had no idea it would be so much fun. We went to PetSmart and I got to pick out a gift. There were hundreds of things to pick from and I just didn’t know what I liked best but finally decided on a squeaky frog and a big bag of chewies.

I was also very cute….people noticed me and they thought I was adorable….ahhhh yes, being a big boy and going shopping was quite fun!

More Trouble

Who knew we don’t eat the buttons off the cushions on the porch furniture? Well I know it now….. And that is not the only thing I’m in trouble for. Today I was bored, I chased a cat in the house and she jumped onto a table that had a resin Boyd’s Bear on it and it fell to the floor and broke….I got the blame for it even though it was Fluffy who actually broke the bear.

I dug in the wet mulch this afternoon and so my fur turned black and so is the toy that I buried. My “Charlie Brown” stuffed toy has now turned black. I don’ t know what the big deal is, I chewed his arms and legs off last week and so he wasn’t really Charlie Brown any more anyhow. I got a bath tonight so my fur is white again. I guess I better stay out of the mulch in the front yard till mamma calms down.

Sick as a dog!

Ugh, I am really sick….I can hardly even keep my little head up to type at the keyboard. I have been throwing up all day….It sure is keeping my mamma busy because I don’t have to be in my crate any more during the day so while she was at work today I threw up in the living room twice and the sun room once, I didn’t throw up in the kitchen until tonight. And finally by the time she had to go to a meeting tonight she put me in my crate and I threw up in there. Mamma is washing the rugs that I threw up on and she is hoping that the chair I threw up on is dry before her meeting tomorrow night. She said she would be embarrassed if anyone sat on a wet chair. If I am still sick tomorrow I will have to go back to Dr. Harry and well, I am not wanting to do that at all, I still have a clear memory of the last trip there! So, I am hoping that whatever it was that made me sick is out of my system by tomorrow.

So, that was pretty much my day, I puked a little, looked out the window a bit, ate a bit and puked some more. Not a very productive day!

No picture today I feel like crap and just don't feel like being photographed!

The Worst Day of my Life

Well, I just had the worst day of my life. This blog entry is for my dog friends out there. When your mamma talks about getting you “fixed” it is not a good thing… I am not sure about all the details and what it means but I am beginning to piece together what happend. I’m not going into the detail because it is very embarrassing, I’ll just say that I was to the vet today and I am not a happy camper tonight.

This morning Mamma put my crate into the car because I do not travel well. She expects me to sit on the front seat and quietly look out the window like Rusty does when we travel but I much prefer to look out all the windows, sometimes the view is better from the back seat. I cried most of the way to the dr. and instead of taking me back home, mamma just kept on going and before I knew it I was walking into the dr. office.

I greeted Dr. Harry and then he put me on his table and he talked to mamma and then he gave me a shot that really hurt. I squealed and really wanted to go home but instead Mamma turned and left without me. Ok, here is where it gets fuzzy…..the next thing I know, I was back at home waking up in my crate in a great deal of pain. I was not able to walk or chase the cats or do anything fun at all today. I didn’t even feel like eating and when I did walk around I heard mamma tell Molly that I was walking on my tip toes... As I was leaving the dr. office I do remember the dr. telling mamma that I might be depressed for a few days and then he added that he was sure he would be. One thing I know for sure, I am not going back to that dr. ever again!

Thank goodness there are no photos of today's events!

Poor Little "Sparkie"

A couple weeks ago mamma put me in the car and off we went to get my hair cut again. It looks like this hair cutting thing is going to be happening on a fairly regular basis. I am not really happy about it but I think I look rather cute when I come home with my new hair cut. I really do not like to have a bath or my nails clipped. Mamma goes to have her nails done every two weeks. I’m sure glad I don’t have to go that often!!

Last week mamma put both Rusty and Sparkie in the car to go to Evelyn’s (our beautician) and when they came back my poor little friend Sparkie looked just awful. She had really long hair before she left but mamma said it was very matted and when she came home well, look at the photo I am attaching!!! I used to be able to get a mouth full of hair and pull her across the room but now that she got her hair cut I can’t do that. She hits me when I try to grab her by the neck. When Sparkie came home she would not go outside for three days because she was embarrassed for anyone to see her. I got to see her because I am family but no one else. I guess she finally got used to it because she goes outside now. I sure hope the next time I go Evelyn doesn’t do that to me!!!

Yummy Flip Flops

One of my goals for the summer I believe will be to see how many pairs of flip flops I can chew and claim as mine! A few weeks ago when mamma was cleaning out Molly’s closet (Molly is away at college and has way to many clothes and shoes, so mamma decided to get rid of some extras) I tagged along to see what she was doing and since I am not allowed in Molly’s room I saw this as a good opportunity to see what that room is all about. I have decided that her room is like a candy store for dogs. There is more “stuff” in that room than anywhere in the house and it all looks very interesting to me. The floor is usually full of clothes and shoes so it is quite comfy for me. I watched mamma fold clothes and throw them on various piles until that got boring then I decided to find something else that would interest me.

I found a pair of flip flops and began chewing on them. The Flip flops were even more fun than the foam rubber from my Christmas bed because they are quite sturdy and substantial. They make a wonderful toy to chew on and without much trouble I can bite through the rubber and tear off pieces. The foam from my bed was like chewing gum but the rubber from a shoe is more like the texture of meat! After I chewed on the shoe, Mamma took a photo of me with the flip flop and then got rid of it so that Molly wouldn’t see it.

Last week when it was warm mamma wore flip flops and when she took them off I realized my opportunity for more of that steak-like chewing. Mamma was not impressed. In fact, I got into trouble and if I had a bank account I would be buying new flip flops this week!

There are many pairs of flip flops in Molly’s room and some in mamma’s room also so I will be on the look out for some good chewing this summer. I can’t wait for it to be flip-flop weather!!

"Kitty Crunchies"

Today I made an interesting discovery. I found a box of “kitty crunchies” in the hall. Well actually I didn’t just discover them, I just got caught!!! I have been sneaking “kitty crunchies” for awhile, but mamma just found out about it. We have a box in the hall that the kitties hide “cookies” in. They think that they are clever and no one will discover that they are there because they bury their treasure. Well I am a bit more clever than a cat and I can find just about anything, and sure enough there are cookies buried in the box!

According to mamma THEY ARE NOT COOKIES! She finds my taste for “kitty crunchies” to be sick and disgusting and I am pretty sure that she is planning to ruin the fun because she has been ranting and raving about my “dirty little secret” and that the game is up. So for now I’m laying low but I’ll be keeping an eye on the cats!

Snow Day

It’s snowing!! Today is going to be a really fun day. It is my first snow. It is winter and in the winter sometimes we get snow that falls from the sky and covers everything. It snowed all day yesterday and today, we also had sleet that feels like ice falling from the sky. My mamma took the day off work and we are having a snow day. A snow day means that mamma doesn’t have to go to work and we play all day. I got to play outside in the snow. Pappa cleared away the snow and then I got to play in it. The sleet makes the snow kind of hard and sometimes I can walk on it and not fall in and get snowy but sometimes the hard part is not hard and I get covered with snow. But that is ok too because I can just shake and the snow falls off of me.

Yesterday mamma thought I was in my crate and she went out to sweep the snow off the porch but I was not in my crate and I very cleverly got out the door before it closed and I was off like a shot. I ran to the neighbors house and then to the middle school. I was able to run for about 20 minutes before I got tired and decided to come back home. Mamma wasn’t so mad because there was no traffic yesterday and she didn’t think I would get hurt.

Another cool thing about my snow day is that mamma made new bandanas for me and my brother. Here is a picture of us in our matching bandanas. Are we cool or what!! Pappa says the flowers look kind of like a sissy boy but mamma says that blue is for boys and therefore I will not be mistaken for a sissy boy... I sure hope she is right.

Happy, Happy Me!

Today I got a present in the mail! I got a pretty towel with my name on it and it came from my friend Holly. She lives in Florida when it is cold outside and the rest of the time she lives in our town. I don’t think I have ever met Holly, she is more like my mamma’s friend but I would like to be friends with her because she gives good gifts. I think when she comes home I will visit her and thank her for my gift.

So about my towel, not only does it have my name on it but it also has a puppy on it that looks like me. I think mamma will use it to dry off my feet when it is raining. So today is a good day, I am a happy puppy because today I got mail.

A Muddy Mess

Here is a picture of me, a muddy mess, waiting to get a bath. The photograph of me is not a good one, I mean the mud doesn’t really show up but trust me, I’m knee deep in mud and here is my story!!!

Mamma has not been walking me every day so today I decided that I would go for a run. Mamma is not a runner so I decided to go without her. When she came home from work I heard her car pull into the garage and I waited for her to come into the house. When she did, I ran out. At first I didn’t think she saw me, but she did and before I knew it she was out yelling for me to come but I am a fast little puppy. My legs are short but I can really go fast and well, as long as I am faster than mamma I can run all afternoon!

First I ran to the neighbor’s house then into the back yard. The back yard was very muddy and mamma decided to come after me. She was not happy because, as I heard her telling Molly, she was up to her ankles in mud, I think she was exaggerating a bit but I did notice that she had a good pair of shoes on. I kept on running and then went out front for a bit and across the street to the school yard. Rusty later told me that mamma was threatening to give me away at that point. I have never seen my mamma so angry. Mamma went inside and Molly came out to yell for me, I thought maybe she was going to run with me, but no such luck…. Eventually mamma went back in the house….and soon I decided that it was time to come home.

When mamma came out to look for me again I was in the front yard and I ran to her as fast as I could, I thought she would be really happy to see me but she was mostly mad because when I jumped into her arms to greet her I forgot that I was a muddy mess and I got mud on her sweater, her pants and her jacket. I think that all that mud will come out in the washing machine but that didn’t seem to matter to mamma.

Well, we went into the house and before I knew what was happening mamma had me in the kitchen sink giving me a bath. I absolutely hate to have a bath. I really don’t think boys are supposed to like baths and I am definitely all boy! Usually I don’t have to get a bath unless mamma and papa are both home because it takes two people to keep me in the sink. Mamma was very determined by that point and I got a bath!

The next time I need a run, I will definitely stay out of the mud!

My new new bed

Mamma took Molly to State College to shop today and when she came home she had a lovely bed just for me! It is one that she says I will not be able to easily destroy. It is much better than the other new bed, it is big and when I jump on it, I can imagine myself on a trampoline. I am attaching a photo of me enjoying my new bed. I am a happy, happy dog tonight!!

Football Season

Today I learned about football! I learned that the month of January is dedicated to playoff games and that they play those games every weekend. Mamma and Pappa have been watching a lot of football lately. I learned that mamma’s favorite professional team is the Eagles and I learned that when the Eagles are playing, no one is supervising me! My pappa is off with the National Guard today and Molly is playing with her friends. That leaves me and mamma at home and since she was watching a football game I had to find something to do to entertain myself.

I played with some toys and I chased the cat. The cat was feeling a bit feisty today and smacked me a few times with her claws so I decided to find a different game. Mamma was watching TV in the living room so I went into the sunroom and noticed a thread on the carpet that was sticking up so I pulled it a few times and….well one thing lead to another and before I knew it I had pulled the carpet off the floor and had chewed all the way down to the floor.

Mamma does not think this will be something that she will be able to easily hide from pappa….she thinks that we will both be in big trouble when he gets home. I am attaching a photo of the little carpet mishap.

Mamma explained a few more rules today while she was laying down the law:

1. I will not roll my toys behind the fridge or under the sofa or bed.

2. I must shake the rainwater out of my fur before entering the house.

3. I will not eat the cats' food, before they eat it or after they throw it up.

4. "Kitty box crunchies", although they are tasty, are not food.

5. I will not bark each time I hear a doorbell whether real or on TV.

6. I will not use "roll around in the dirt" as an option after just getting a bath.

7. Sticking my nose into someone's crotch is not an acceptable way of saying hello!

8. The sofa is not a face towel. Neither are mamma or pappa’s laps.

9. I will not sit in the middle of the living room and lick my crotch when we have company.

10. I will chew on my toys and only my toys.

Bad Dog!!!

Tonight I am a sad little puppy. Mamma is giving my new bed to Sparkie, the cat. Yesterday I was checking it out and discovered that the bottom of it is made of foam rubber. In fact if you turn the bed over, the foam rubber is exposed and it is soft and spongie….so if you pull pieces of it off and chew on it, it is a very interesting texture and is what I think chewing gum would be like. Because you can chew and chew and not get any flavor but the chewing part is a lot of fun. So yesterday I pulled some of the foam off and played with it. I got yelled at when mamma discovered what I was doing.

Today I chewed some more of it. I can’t help it, it is so much fun to pull off the foam and throw it around the living room. But I REALLY got in trouble today. That is why I am sad….mamma took my bed and put it up so that I can’t get it, only Sparkie can reach it and she snuggles in just like it belongs to her. It makes me very sad to see Sparkie using my brand new bed. I’m a very sorry puppy.

I guess I will be in my crate at night forever.
